Discuss football offenses
I'm assistant coaching for Pullman High School next year since I got accepted to WSU for the coming Fall semester, and seeing as how it's the spring, I'm hungry for some football discussion! So, I figured I'm make a thread on some of the football offenses.
Personally, I think there's too much wing-t/fly/misdirection these days, which can also be a problem, seeing as how a lot of plays can be given away with guard pulls.
My personal favorite: The option, primarily out of a wishbone/2 back with a wing set. For starters, it's a true offense, in the sense that what you see is what you will most likely get. Second, there's so many different ways one play can go because of all the choices that can be made (hence the name 'option'). Finally, because of its rareness in football nowadays, it's extremely difficult for the opposing team to duplicate it for one game, while the other team has been practicing it all year long and will probably execute it much better than the opponent, who is trying to duplicate the difficult fundamentals behind the option for a week's worth of practice, then nothing more. There seems to be an advantage to that.
So, what's everyone else think? Are you guys more of the misdirection type, or do you prefer the what-you-see-is-what-you-get style?
